House of Lasagna (Unit 1-B G&L Building J. Abad Santos cor V. Cruz St., Little Baguio, San Juan City)

Date visited: August 2013

What we ordered:

Southern Fried Chicken Skin, Beef Lasagna, Chicken Lasagna and Three Cheese Lasagna

Taste = 5/5

–          House of lasagna indeed! We’ve frequented this place several times already and we’ve never been disappointed. The chicken skin was very crunchy and its saltiness went very well with vinegar. When we tried their assortment of lasagnas, we thought that they would taste the same regardless of the ingredients. We were pleasantly surprised when each one of them had distinct flavors. The best lasagna for me was the beef lasagna while Lyn preferred the chicken lasagna. The beef lasagna tasted very meaty with the tomato sauce at the background while the flavour of the chicken lasagna highlighted the herbs. I thought the three cheese lasagna would be too cheesy but I was wrong. The cheeses blended very well to the point that it seemed like it they used just one very good cheese. It was so good that adding other ingredients to it would probably destroy the taste. Almost forgot to mention that their lasagnas come with unlimited yummy garlic bread!

Service = 5/5

–          Everytime we came here, we saw only one server for the whole restaurant but that didn’t stop her from giving us great service. Sure she wasn’t quick with our requests all the time but we saw that she was giving maximum effort.

Ambience = 4/5

–          The restaurant is a little hard to find in San Juan and the dining area is small. Good thing they renovated a little and removed some of the large display cabinets and created some extra space.

Value for money = 5/5

–          The prices of their lasagnas were on the expensive side but the superior taste, quality and serving size made us feel happy during payment. The small dining area didn’t dissuade us from having a great time eating there.

What we ordered:

Chicken Croquettes, Italian Sausage w/ Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Napa Baby Back Ribs

Taste = 4.5/5

–          Everything we ordered tasted good. The Croquettes had a very crunchy outside and a paste-like consistency on the inside. The taste was good but we couldn’t tell if it really had chicken in it. The pasta dish was cooked very nicely. The Italian sausage blended very well with the sun-dried tomatoes and made the pasta dish rich in flavour. The serving size of the Baby Back Ribs was huge: not only were there plenty of ribs but the meats on the ribs were chunky as well. The taste of the ribs was on the sweet side and the meat was very tender. The veggies were also a good compliment to the ribs just to change the taste in between bites.

Service = 4.5/5

–          The servers were very attentive and catered to our orders but when more customers came, they looked like they were panicking a little.

Ambience = 4.5/5

–          The place looked good for casual dates as they had dimly lit areas and cozy seats. It also looked like they have their own wine selection and there were also areas for large groups.

Value for money = 5/5

–          We weren’t able to finish any of the dishes we ordered because the serving sizes were large. The taste and quality were superior to most of the restaurants in the area. They really know how to fairly price their menu items while maintaining good quality dishes and service.
