Restaurant Review: Octoboy

Address: Tomas Morato Avenue Corner Scout Lozano Street, Laging Handa, Quezon City

Date visited: December 2018

The Taste

3/5

The Black Takoyaki tasted good. The color of the bun was black because of squid ink. It had a lot of stuffing inside to include shrimp, kani, crabstick, cheese, vegetables and octopus, of course. It was served with takoyaki sauce, uni sauce, aioli sauce and ebiko. The flavors complemented each other very well.

The Seafood Miso ramen tasted too Filipinized: it was like eating seafood mami. The tonkatsu was sub par as it did not resemble the picture on their menu, the breading was too soggy and it was bland.

The Service

3/5

The service was average overall, nothing really to complain or rave about. The waiting times were acceptable.

The Place

3/5

The restaurant underwent some changes in their decor and it seemed that it was still trying to find out what its identity was. There was a sort of Japanese restaurant area and there was a live band area within the same indoor dining area.

The Value for Money

3/5

The Black Takoyaki was P280, the Seafood Miso Ramen was P330 and the Katsudon was P240. The prices of the ramen and katsudon were steep considering the quality. The pricing of the black takoyaki was relatively ok as compared to the regular octopus takoyaki at P165.

Pro Tip: They have expanded their menu offerings to include steak since we visited this restaurant. This particular branch have live performers on certain nights.
