Restaurant Review: Mamou

Address: Ground Floor, Ayala Malls The 30th, Meralco Avenue, Ugong, Pasig City

Date bought: July 2019

The Taste

We decided on having take out food for our anniversary and we chose to get it from one of our preferred restaurants – Mamou.

The staff recommended that we have steamed live Maine lobsters for take out. Good thing we believed them. It was delicious. The meat was firm and not rubbery and it tasted really well with the malt vinaigrette and lemon butter sauce. It came with aligue (crab fat) rice. Lobsters + crab fat rice = happiness, definitely.

We also ordered steak: 28 day dry aged USDA Prime Grade T-bone steak. We ordered it to be cooked medium. The meat was cooked correctly to medium and the texture was almost marshmallow-like in sponginess when bitten. The beefy taste was as clean as it can get. We had Himalayan pink salt at home and it provided a real upgrade in the flavor.

The Service

We bought this for take out/ take away so we can’t really review their service. But we can say that the staff were extra helpful when we were ordering our take out – they patiently gave suggestions and made sure we were comfortable while waiting for the orders.

The Place

They had an indoor dining area and an alfresco area. The indoor dining area was small but they managed to maximize the space and, moving around was comfortable. It was brightly lit and felt homey. It was nice that they displayed a live seafood tank inside that was good for two king crabs and around eight lobsters.

First-timers there may take some time to find the door because it was really incorporated into the decor of the front of their restaurant with no door knobs.

The Value for Money

The steamed Maine lobster was P3445 and the steak was P3690. The price of live seafood depended on the prevailing market price at the time.

The food items in Mamou are mostly pricey but, they are generally worth it.

Pro Tip: Always go for live seafood, when available. Also, try their squid ink pasta.
