Restaurant Review: Flossom Kitchen + Cafe

Address: Flossom Place, 187 N. Averilla Street, Brgy. Sta. Lucia, Greater San Juan, San Juan City

Date visited: January 2019

The Taste

5/5

The Angus Salisbury skillet had a quarter pound Angus patty, mushrooms, gravy and a sunny side up egg. The patty was cooked perfectly and, we liked it in the skillet because it gained a thin crispy bottom. The gravy was savory and not bland, which made eating the dish a happy experience.

The baked meatloaf was described, in their menu, as an embutido with béchamel and mozzarella. The embutido was surprisingly juicy and the sauce plus cheese made us forget to ask for ketchup. The flavors complemented each other very well.

The molten lava cake had a molten chocolate soufflé, dark chocolate ganache and vanilla ice cream on top. Preparing a dessert with these items to achieve a delicious result may seem automatic but for this dessert to be really good, the sweetness has to be balanced. Good thing they prepared this dish wonderfully. It was, as what Thanos would say, perfectly balanced.

The Service

4/5

The servers were attentive and the time it took to prepare the dishes was reasonable. Maybe a little extra smile would have taken the service to the next level.

The Place

4/5

Upon entering the restaurant, a pink neon ‘Flossom’ sign greeted us. Plants were also hanging from the ceiling (mostly ferns upside down), the table tops were wooden and on metal frames, there were steel chairs but there were also couch seats. It felt like we were eating in an indoor garden. The experience was nice but moving around took some effort because the dining area was a little cramped.

The Value for Money

3/5

The Angus Salisbury steak was P420, the baked meatloaf was P320 and the molten lava cake was P250. The dishes are on the expensive side but everything we tried was delicious.

Pro Tip: The ceiling is relatively low so tall people may have to duck while moving around. Also, the petals on the dishes are edible.
